these two men are going to be kicking my ass for the next 10 weeks.
first of all, thanks to all you lovely readers for your wonderful comments, tweets and emails of support and kind words during my fitness challenge and for coming back to read my boring, tiresome drivel of OAL updates. this has been a tough 8 months but i'm loving every minute of it.
in my last post, i mentioned that my next fitness challenge is going to be p90x. i decided to wrap up insanity since 1) i passed the 2month mark a few weeks ago and was just doing the workouts because i love them so much and 2) i wanted to get a jump start on p90x because i'm eager to get ripped. before i started the program, i reviewed each workout and i'm a little disappointed with the p90x cardio workouts - they just seem so slow! therefore, i've decided to alter my plan: after 2 weeks of pure p90x, i'm going to switch it up and do a p90x/insanity hybrid program which basically means i'm going to kick my own ass and do p90x and insanity alternating days. this shit just got real.
insanity helped me shed the fat and trim down; it gave me a nice, perky ass (thanks to all the plyo moves) and strong, muscular legs but didn't give me the exact muscle definition i wanted. i can see the slight outlines of my obliques and some arm definition but i want to see more. i have no problem seeing definition in my legs because they're monstrous from all the jump training.... they're the only muscles in my body that develop in no time with very little training. i wish the rest of my body would follow suit.
so, enter p90x.
i've read the program manual, joined the beachbody community and talked to some folks who have completed the program and all say that p90x totally shredded their body into a ripped sheet. some even sent me their before and after shots and all i can say is where do i sign up?
yesterday was day 1 of the program. this time i remembered to take my "day 1" pictures and will follow with my "final results" shots but before i post my p90x day 1 pictures, i'm going to do something i didn't think i would do -- post some before and after shots. some readers have asked if i would do this and after thinking it over, here they are. i had been (visually) tracking my progress but too shy to post anything because i didn't want to come off as a show-offy douchebag. it's one thing to verbally post about your progress but another to splash douchebag pictures of yourself all over the internet.
my mid-section was the most problematic; it was flabby and big and muffin-toppy. i hated it. as the weeks went on and as i progressed through each program, my torso got smaller and tighter as my core got toned and stronger (which is why my shots were mostly of my torso). in hindsight, i should've taken full body shots because i had flab all over (especially my upper body) but i was more focused on getting rid of my belly pooch.
i feel a little embarassed posting these revealing pictures but what the hell... this is a fitness challenge and i'm interested in what my body will look like after the 10 weeks are over. what sucks is that when i lose weight, i become straight as a domino -- no hips or curves whatsoever.
i'll be posting another OAL p90x update in the coming days since it's too soon to tell how this program is. i do have my reservations about it but it's only because insanity has ruined me for all other workouts however, i'm going to give p90x an honest shot and give it my all. i even went out and bought 15lbs weights.... i have never lifted 15lbs weights, not even during my gym-rat days because i was always afraid of bulking up. the program states that i should be maxing out at 10-12reps and 10 or 12lbs wasn't cutting it.
one thing though: that tony horton guy is so fucking annoying. he's ripped and obviously in great shape but i could certainly do without all of his goddamn talking and the weird, creepy shit he says during the workouts. when you're focused during a workout, you don't need to listen to some bullshit yammering... how about a little less talky and more shut the fuck up mmmkay, tony horton?
